![]() The AlphaSonic™ Boom: Volume 1Runner's HighA Triathlete Attributes His Success to the AlphaSonic™Daryl Clarke: Research Chemist
Top athletes work hard to avoid injuries, but because they push their bodies to incredible limits they know that injuries are inevitable. Daryl's breakdown occurred in September of 2005, shortly after his 32nd birthday. He had been competing in long distance races every weekend, including Olympic distance triathlons and a half marathon. "My goal at that time was to do both a half ironman triathlon and a marathon by the end of 2005." Just two miles into a half-marathon, his right calf muscle popped. "It felt like my muscle literally tore away from the bone," he recalls vividly. Unable to even walk, he was forced to drop out of the race, a first in his athletic career. For most athletes, such an injury takes from 6 to 9 months to recover. His doctor advised him to stay off of the leg for about 8 weeks, and to employ the RICE therapy (rest, ice, compress and elevate). He was told it would take 3 to 4 months before he could run again, if at all. Daryl, however, had another idea. He had already committed to a 10k at Disneyworld in Orlando; the trip and the race were already paid for. It was less than a month away, and he planned to be there in competitive form. He felt that accomplishing his goal would take a miracle. He went straight home and, in addition to following the doctor's orders, also used his AlphaSonic™ every night. Just five days after his calf muscle had torn, he was walking without pain and ten days later he was able to run slowly. He continued his therapies as well, ever mindful not to re-injure the leggradually increasing the pace and the duration of his runs. Early on October 9th of 2005, Daryl warmed up along with more than 950 other runners at the starting line at Disneyworld, not knowing if he would complete the race. Amazingly, Daryl crossed the finish line just 35 minutes and 45 seconds later, ranking 14th overall and 2nd in his age group. He had achieved his goal. "I went from being crippled to running a great race in less than a month!" His friends, family members and colleagues were amazed with his rehabilitation. Daryl himself was more convinced than ever that the AlphaSonic™ was instrumental in his recovery. Today he is adamant that the AlphaSonic™ will remain his number one maintenance and therapy tool: "After using the AlphaSonic™, I feel stronger and have more endurance. I can train hard days more often with fewer recovery days between workouts. And if anything happened to my AlphaSonic™, I'd be on the phone buying another one."
